2010 Summer Interns

August 10, 2010

Renee Reekie, a student at Fordham University School of Law, worked on Partners’ legal team this summer.   She had this to say about her experience with Partners:

I have had a truly amazing internship at Partners.  Partners helps victims of domestic violence who cannot afford attorneys.  Most are unaware of the laws which protect victims of domestic violence and how those laws can be used to break the cycle of violence.  Children are involved in many of our cases.  Whenever children are involved the cases become more urgent and complex.  Children who witness abuse are more likely to become abusers themselves.  By empowering women to use the legal system to get protection from their abusers Partners combats the cycle of violence for both the individual woman and any children she may have that will no longer witness domestic violence in their homes.  Thus, Partners does not just help women individually, but also works toward a society with safer, more protected women and children.   I feel like I have genuinely helped women in need.  I am grateful I had the opportunity to intern here!

Our Verizon Summer Fellow, Victoria Kryzsiak, a student at Seton Hall University School of Law, had this to say about Partners:

Many cases I worked on this summer affected me, but one in particular pulled on my heartstrings.  A mother and her young sons were living without power for several weeks, because her husband stopped providing monetary support and paying household bills.  A few days after a successful outcome from the court, the family had power again.  It was extremely rewarding to see that we helped make such a tangible difference in this family’s life.  I am continually impressed with Partners and the impact that it has on our clients and their lives.  I have truly enjoyed my internship with Partners.
