What We Do
Our clients are low-income and abused women who cannot afford legal representation. Many of the women who call Partners work, which places them above the official poverty line, but realistically, they do not have the money for protracted court battles. In pursuit of its mission, Partners currently administers several free programs for eligible women:
mPower Legal Clinic | mPower Assistance | mPower Line | Pro Bono Representation
mPower Legal Clinics
The goal of our mPower Legal Clinics is to provide eligible low-income women who need specific, personal legal advice and counsel in family law matters with the opportunity to meet in private for 45 minutes with an experienced family law attorney.
The Clinics are free. They are staffed by volunteer family law attorneys and take place on scheduled Saturdays from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm at locations in Essex and Morris Counties. back to top
mPower Assistance
For women who need to obtain or modify child support or set visitation and custody arrangements for their children and for women who want to pursue their own divorces when there are no disputes over custody or financial matters, Partners offers mPower Assistance – at no charge. We guide women in the preparation of the complex paperwork demanded by the court. back to top
mPowerLine – A Phone Helpline
For qualified women who need to obtain or modify child support, visitation and custody of their children from their children’s fathers, and for women who want to pursue their own divorces when there are no contested issues, Partners offers mPowerLine. Our goal in offering mPowerLine is to provide women with critical legal advice, counsel and information, over the phone, on a case-by case basis, in matters of child support, visitation, custody, divorce and domestic violence. We take calls from throughout the State. back to top
Pro Bono Representation
Family Law Pro Bono Legal Representation Program
Whatever the needs of the women who come to us for help, they will have a significantly better chance of prevailing in court if they have quality legal representation. Our Family Law pro bono program seeks to place non-complex family law cases with attorneys who volunteer to represent women without charge. Currently, we are placing cases in Essex and Morris Counties.
Domestic Violence Pro Bono Legal Representation Program
We provide pro bono legal representation to qualified low-income women in Final Restraining Order hearings in Essex and Union Counties. back to top
